Playing on their home floor for the last time this year the Storm Lake girls basketball team overcame a slow start and beat visiting Fort Dodge 54-39 Wednesday night at Tornado Fieldhouse.
After trailing 15-8 at the end of the first quarter Storm Lake would outscore the Dodgers 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 23-21 lead at the break. They would then make 8-of-11 shots in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 42-32 heading into the final eight minutes. The Storm Lake defense forced 26 turnovers but they committed 18 themselves including eleven in the first half.
Storm Lake made 21-of-46 shots for the game and Fort Dodge made 15-of-39.
Adeeya Yanga scored ten of her team high 19 points in the 3rd quarter, Avery DeHaan made three 3-pointers and added 13 points. Grace Kenkel scoredd nine points and was a force on the glass, Maddy Raveling added eight and Mackenzie Harder scored all five of her points in the 2nd half.
Fort Dodge was led by LJ Maehl’s game high 20 points and the Dodgers finish the year 8-15.
Storm Lake is now 15-7 which is their most wins in a season since the 2010 State Tournament team. Click below to hear from Tornado head coach Nate Reichter.
Storm Lake will now play at 12th ranked Carroll (16-6) Saturday night at 7pm in a Class 4A regional semifinal. Carroll won the regular season meeting January 4th at Tornado Fieldhouse 46-42.
