The Storm Lake basketball teams tipped off their conference season with games Friday night at Spirit Lake. Claire Turner scored a game high 22 points leading the Indians to a 61-50 win in the girls game. Adeeya Yanga scored a team high 21 for the Tornadoes and Avery DeHaan chipped in with eleven. Storm Lake girls are now 4-1 overall.
Jaidyn Coon led four Tornadoes in double figures with 23 points and the Tornado boys beat Spirit Lake 77-68 in a thrilling game. Trey Boettcher buried a 40-footer at the buzzer to end the first half giving Storm Lake a 48-33 lead at the break.
The Indians would battle back and pull within two points at 60-58 with five minutes to play. Charlie Dvergsten’s four point play with under two minutes to play sealed the deal for the Tornadoes who move their season record to 3-0.
Boettcher scored 15 points off the bench, Dvergsten made four 3-pointers and scored 13, and Cam Boyd tallied 12 points.
