Kristen Axman’s made free throw with 3.5 seconds left was the difference in Pocahontas Area’s 44-43 win over Storm Lake Friday night in Pocahontas keeping the Indians unbeaten on the season.
Avery DeHaan buried a 3-pointer with :30 seconds left to put Storm Lake up 43-41. Madison Vial, who scored a team high 14 points, made two free throws to tie the game at 43-43. After Axman’s free throw Storm Lake had the ball with a half second left and were inbounding from half court. Adeeya Yanga received a pass and her long jumper was no good. DeHaan finished with 16 points and Yanga ended the game with 12.
Pocahontas Area carried a ten point lead into the 4th quarter and won despite making only 1-of-8 shots from the field in the 4th quarter.

In the boys game Storm Lake scored 29 points in the 1st and 2nd quarters to grab a 58-16 lead at the break and they went on to win 88-38. Jaidyn Coon scored a game high 22 points, Trey Boettcher had 15, and David William chipped in with 10 and the Tornadoes move their record to 6-0.

Pocahontas Area teams play again Tuesday at Spirit Lake. The Storm Lake teams will host Carroll Saturday afternoon at 4pm. The games will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL and video streamed at stormlakeradio.com
