Storm Lake Teams Take Down Newell-Fonda

The Storm Lake basketball teams swept Newell-Fonda Tuesday night at Tornado Fieldhouse. The girls game was tied ten different times and had nine lead changes and was tied at 42-42 going into the final quarter. Avery DeHaan scored 27 points and Adeeya Yanga added 17 as Storm Lake finishes the regular season 14-7. The Mustangs were led by Kinzee Hinders’ 27 points and Ellie Sievers added 13.

Storm Lake used a 16-0 run in the first half to take their biggest lead at 20-8 only to have the Mustangs answer with a 10-0 run of the own and at the half the Tornadoes led 23-21.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 16-4 and they will play again Thursday at home vs. Exira-EHK. Storm Lake will find out their tournament bracket tomorrow. Click below to hear from Storm Lake’s DeHaan, Grace Kenkel, and head coach Nate Reichter.

The Storm Lake boys scored 54 first half points in their 87-45 win over the Mustangs. Jaidyn Coon scored 25 points, Charlie Dvergsten buried four 3-pointers and finished with 16, and Cam Boyd scored 13 of his 15 in the first quarter to lead the Tornadoes in scoring. Storm Lake shot 57-percent for the game and made 10 of their 12 3-pointers in the first half.

The Mustangs, now 13-7, were led by Jacksyn Hogrefe’s 11 points, Guyson Lyman made three 3-pointers for his nine. Newell-Fonda will conclude their regular season Thursday at OA-BCIG.
