The Storm Lake Tornado Boys Soccer team defeated the LeMars Bulldogs 2-0 to win Class 3A-Substate 1 and advance to the Class 3A State Tournament
The game saw the Tornadoes strike first in the opening 14 minutes of the match when Cairo Hernandez connected on his third goal of the season to make it 1-0 Storm Lake with 26:02 to go in the half. (The clip below is how the goal sounded on KBVU)
The defenses would lock down seeing both goalies make great saves. In the final 10 minutes of the half, Alexis Sanabia would be tested on a PK. Sanabia would stop Jacob Plueger to keep the Tornado lead 1-0 (Below as heard on KBVU)
The Tornadoes would keep the game 1-0 at the halftime break. Both defenses would be on display in the second half until Hernandez added his second of the game doubling his season goal total to make it 2-0 Storm Lake with 10:37 to go. (Below as heard on KBVU)
The Tornadoes would go on to win 2-0. With the win the Tornadoes improve to 7-7, and advance to the Class 3A State Tournament (first time in Class 3A, 7th State Tournament Appearance) next Wednesday. The loss ends LeMars’ season at 7-11 (3rd Varsity Season for LeMars)
