The Storm Lake wrestling team opened their season with three dual victories on their home mat and the Tornado basketball teams both picked up wins at Emmetsburg Thursday evening.
The wrestling team defeated Sioux Central 49-29, they beat Pocahontas Area 57-20 and it was a 77-6 win over West Bend-Mallard. The Tornadoes wrestle again Saturday in the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Invitational. They will wrestle at home again Thursday, December 12th when they host Spencer, the varsity match that night will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.
The girls basketball team improved to 3-0 with a 48-47 win. The Tornadoes never trailed and led by as many as 17 points in the 2nd half. Emmetsburg made only 4-of-27 shots in the first half but the E-hawks knocked down 14-of-24 in the 2nd half to help their comeback.
Adeeya Yanga made 8-of-12 shots and scored a game high 18 points. Avery DeHaan continued her torrid shooting going 4-for-8 from the arc and finished with 14 points. DeHaan has now made 15-of-26 three point attempts on the season. The Tornadoes will play again Tuesday night at East Sac County with the JV game starting at 6:30pm and the varsity game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA. The Storm Lake boys outscored Emmetsburg 24-9 in the 4th quarter in their 68-46 win. Jaidyn Coon scored 15, Cam Boyd had 14 points, and David William, Trey Boettcher, and Garbeino Weno each had ten as Storm Lake improved to 2-0. Click below to hear from head coach Evan Franzmeier.
