Perry Upsets Tornadoes In Regional Semi-Final

Perry plated three runs in the top of 7th inning and then held on to beat Storm Lake 4-3 Saturday night at Storm Lake.

The Jayettes plated three runs on four hits in the 7th capped off by an RBI single from Cate Erickson and that proved to be the game winner.

Storm Lake’s Cole Richardson broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single which plated Taylor Ripke who singled earlier in the inning. Perry would tie the game with a run in the top of the 6th only to have Storm Lake take the lead right back in the bottom of the inning when they strung together three straight two out singles capped off by Olivia Speers’ pinch hit base hit scoring Hailey Anderson to make it 2-1.

Perry then plated three runs on four hits, aided by a walk and an error to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the 7th inning. Storm Lake’s Mackenzie Harder led off the bottom of the 7th inning with her third bunt single of the game. After back to back pop ups for outs Taylor Ripke laced an RBI single to right field scoring Harder to make it 4-3 but winning pitcher Maci Tunink got a strike out to end the game.

Storm Lake had ten hits in the game with Harder going 3-for-4, Ripke was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Richardson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Tunink struck out eight and walked one. Losing pitcher Avery DeHann gave up eight hits, she struck out eight and walked none.

Perry, now 10-18, will play at 2nd ranked Dallas Center Grimes Tuesday in a regional final. Storm Lake concludes the year with a record of 22-4.
