The Newell-Fonda girls basketball team beat North Linn 48-38 in the semifinal round of the 1A Girls State Tournament Friday afternoon giving them a chance at winning their 5th state championship.
Kinzee Hinders scored a game high 22 and Ellie Sievers added 12 including two big 3βs in the final 2:30 of the 4th quarter and the Mustangs defense held the Lynx scoreless over the last 6:23 of the game and outscored them 14-2 in the 4th quarter.
Sievers finished the game with 12 points and Jocee Walsh scored six points had five blocks and four steals. Ava Vie also hit a pair of 3-pointers for her six points.

Newell-Fonda will now play Council Bluffs-St. Albert Saturday at 7pm for the 1A championship.
Newell-Fonda will be making their 10th championship game appearance in the last 13 seasons and are appearing in their record 13th championship game.
