Sioux Central Baseball Overcomes Six-Run Deficit to Win Season Opener

A seven-run 7th inning lifted the Sioux Central baseball team to a 10-7 win at Ridge View tonight (Tues).

Ridge View scored three in the 3rd which included an RBI single by Jack Braunschweig. Sioux Central got a run back in the 4th, but the Raptors scored three more in the bottom of that inning as they stole six of their 12 bases on the night in that frame. Gavin Vohs and Blake Myrtue each drove in runs. An RBI single by Gavin Stehr gave Ridge View a 7-1 advantage after five.

The Rebels fought back by scoring twice in the 6th, which included an RBI single by Chase Heuton. The first four Sioux Central batters reached in the 7th. Boden Bright drove in two runs with a single, and another run scored on a wild pitch. The next two batters were retired, but then Heuton drew a walk, which was followed by a game-tying, RBI single by Caden Smith. Sawyer Holleson walked, and then a single by Hunter Cooper gave the Rebels their first lead. Two more scored on a hit batter and fielders choice. Bright faced the minimum in the bottom of the 7th to lock up the win.

Bright picked up the win with two innings pitched and only allowed one base runner. Raptors starter Noah Struck pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts.

Sioux Central hosts Western Christian tomorrow (Wed). Ridge View (0-2) will play next Monday at home against Hartley Melvin Sanborn.
