Poky and Ridge View Split

Tuesday’s basketball doubleheader in Holstein began with a 71-43 Pocahontas Area girls win over Ridge View.

The Raptors led by as many as seven in the 1st quarter, but a three by Madison Vial in the final seconds of the quarter cut Ridge View’s lead to 10-8. Poky took the lead for good early in the 2nd, as they went on a 23-0 1st half run, and were up 36-19 at the half.

The Indians struggled shooting early, but made ten threes on the night. Alayna Kakacek had 17 points, followed by Madison Vial with 13. Jayna Aschinger had 17 for Ridge View, and Claire Wandrey had 11. Pocahontas Area goes to 2-0, while Ridge View starts 0-1.

The Ridge View boys never trailed in their 66-26 victory over Pocahontas Area in the season opener for both.

The Raptors went on a 14-0 run in the 2nd quarter to propel them to a 38-16 lead at the half, and they got the 35-point continuous clock in effect with 6:30 to go in the 4th.

11 Ridge View players put points on the board, led by Kellen Jensen with 12, and Adam Stephan had 11. Caleb Roberts had 9 for the Indians.

The Ridge View boys host Alta Aurelia this Thursday at 7:15, which will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM.

The Poky teams play Friday at Manson Northwest Webster, while the Ridge View teams Friday host Lawton Bronson.
