The #3 in 1A Newell Fonda girls were victorious at #14 in 2A Pocahontas Area 77-59 Friday night.
Newell Fonda led 19-18 after the 1st quarter. Poky took their first lead early in the 2nd quarter and built it as high as 24-19. The Mustangs scored the next seven points to retake the lead and never relinquished it after that. Newell Fonda led 38-29 at halftime. The Indians chipped away during the 3rd and got within 47-46, but the Mustangs followed with a 14-0 run. Newell Fonda led 61-50 going to the 4th, and kept the lead at double figures the rest of the way.
Newell Fonda was led by freshman Ellie Sievers with 27 points, and Kinzee Hinders added 19. Poky was topped by Alayna Kakacek with 16 points, Madison Vial had 12, and Kristin Axman had 11.
Newell Fonda is now 7-2, 4-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference, while Poky goes to 8-2, 3-1.

Never Fonda prevailed in a back and forth boys game 57-46.
The lead changed hands eight times. A three by Karson Welander in the final two seconds of the 1st quarter gave Pocahontas Area a 17-13 lead, and the game was tied at 31-31 at halftime. Pocahontas Area built a six point lead during the 3rd, but the Mustangs put together a 13-0 stretch that extended into the 4th quarter to give them the lead for good. Poky closed to within four, but Newell Fonda ended on a 9-2 run.
Max Carlson led Newell Fonda with 18, and Guyson Lyman had 16. Welander had 14 for the Indians, followed by Gabe Ehn’s 12, and Caleb Roberts had 11.
Newell Fonda is now 4-0 in the TLC, and 5-3 overall. Poky is 2-7, 1-3.
