Field Goal in Final Seconds Lifts East Sac Over OA-BCIG

A long pass completion on 4th and 23 set up a game-winning 36 yard field goal by Luke Wright with four seconds left to give East Sac County a 13-12 win over #3 in 1A OA-BCIG in Wall Lake.

The only score of the 1st half came on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Tate Lahr to Chandler Lahr on a 3rd and 13 play with 3:27 to go until halftime. That play capped a nine play 59 yard drive that lasted 3:30 and put East Sac up 7-0.

There was a 20 minute delay as the 2nd half was about to get underway after a bank of lights went out. The Raiders blocked a punt following the first drive of the 2nd half, which led to a 38 yard field goal by Wright to make the score 10-0 midway through the 3rd quarter. The Falcons got on the board on the ensuing drive with an 11 play 79 yard drive in 3:54. Brysen Kolar’s 16 yard touchdown pass to Ethan Behrendsen made the score 10-6. The extra point attempt was blocked. The score held until a 45 yard drive was capped by a four yard touchdown run by Kelton Ladwig with 4:01 left. The Falcons went for two and failed, but held a 12-10 lead.

East Sac got the ball back at their 22 yard line. The drove into enemy territory, but ended up being faced with 4th and 23 when a double pass play that started with a backwards throw from Lahr to Charlie Veit, who then threw downfield to Bradyn Burns. Burns made a 31 yard leaping catch in double coverage for a 31 yard completion to the Falcons 16. A running play to center the ball more toward the middle lost two yards, and set the stage for Wright’s game-winning kick.

Wright is now 5-5 on field goals this season. Burns, along with his spectacular catch in the final minute, had two interceptions defensively. OA-BCIG committed five turnovers, and East Sac had three.

Total yard was nearly the same, as East Sac had 243 and OA-BCIG had 239. Lahr threw for 99 yards. Charlie Veit rushed 12 times for 59 yards, and had six catches for 52 yards. Kolar passed for 131.

Both teams are now 1-1. OA-BCIG plays next Friday at #3 in 2A West Lyon, while East Sac visits Missouri Valley.
