East Sac County beat Alta Aurelia 13-3 in six innings tonight (Mon) in a 2A softball region 1st round game in Wall Lake.
The Raiders scored in every inning. A three-run 1st included a two-RBI triple by Sarah Bontrager. East Sac scored two in the 2nd, and single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Jamie Pierce stole home for the 3rd inning run. In the 4th, Kendall Quirk hit a solo homer with two outs. An RBI groundout by Bontrager in the 5th gave East Sac an 8-1 lead.
The Warriors scored two in their half of the 6th which included an RBI groundout by Clare Gunkelman. Alta Aurelia’s previous run scored on a wild pitch in the 3rd. East Sac ended the game early with a five-run 6th that featured RBI singles by Addison Ehlers and Jamie Pierce, and a game-ending three-RBI double by Jen Ashinger.
Miranda Gerdes threw a one-hitter in five-plus innings with seven strikeouts to get the win. East Sac’s third win this year over their conference rivals puts them at 10-14, ending the Warriors year at 5-19. Raiders coach Steve Nuetzman talked afterward…
