East Sac Postseason Bound With Win Over Sioux Central

The East Sac County football team advances to the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row with their 13-6 win over Sioux Central in Wall Lake.

East Sac recovered a fumble late in the 1st quarter, and they proceeded to go 61 yards in five plays in 1:20. A four-yard touchdown pass from Tate Lahr to Charlie Veit, followed by Luke Wright’s point-after gave the Raiders a 7-0 lead with 2:51 left in the 1st quarter.

The ensuing possession ended with an interception by Carson Schmitt, and that set up a six-play, 38-yard scoring drive. Tate Lahr threw a 21-yard touchdown to Chandler Lahr on a 3rd down play to make it 13-0 with 9:50 left in the 2nd quarter.

After back-to-back three-and-outs, Sioux Central marched 73 yards in 14 plays in 4:19, A four-yard touchdown run by Max Adams put the score at 13-6 with 1:06 left in the half.

The first four drives in the 2nd half resulted in punts. Sioux Central took over at their 44 with 11:47 remaining and drove to the East Sac 31 before they turned the ball over on downs. The Raiders went three-and out, and the Rebels took over at their 25 with 6:19 left. Sioux Central again reached the Raiders 31 yard line, when a 4th and 1 running attempt was stopped for no gain. East Sac took over with 2:35 remaining. Two running plays gained two first downs, and Sioux Central called their first two timeouts of the half. On 3rd and 1, Jack Gullet ran for five yards and a 1st down, and East Sac was able to run out the rest of the clock.

East Sac won despite being outgained 235 yards to 177, and they gained only 40 yards in the 2nd half. Tate Lahr completed 5 of 7 passes for 58 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was also their leader on the ground with 39 yards. Adams rushed 24 times for the Rebels and had 113 yards.

East Sac County will play a 1st round playoff game on the road next Friday. The Raiders finish the regular season 4-4, and 2-3 in 1A District 2. Sioux Central goes to 3-5, 2-3.
