Alta Aurelia Girls Hold on for Senior Night Win; OA-BCIG Boys Victorious

The Alta Aurelia girls basketball team held off a furious rally to defeat OA-BCIG 56-51 Tuesday night in Alta.

The Warriors never trailed. A 12-0 run in the 1st quarter put them up 20-6 after eight minutes. Alta Aurelia’s lead got as high as 21 points during the 2nd quarter. The Falcons closed the gap to 29-17 at halftime, as they went on a 14-0 run that extended into the 3rd quarter. Alta Aurelia led 39-31 after the 3rd quarter. A basket by Brady Youngren with 12 seconds left brought OA-BCIG within 54-51. The Warriors then turned the ball over on the inbound attempt, but OA-BCIG missed a three-point attempt, Hayden Berkland was fouled with one second left, and hit both free throws for the final margin.

Nora Peterson and Peyton Kies each had 17 points for Alta Aurelia, and Berkland added 14. Peterson talked afterward…

Irelyn Wittrock had 16 for OA-BCIG, with 14 in the 2nd half. Jenessa Kolar had 12 for the Falcons, as they drop to 7-15. Alta Aurelia is now 9-13.

The OA-BCIG girls play Saturday in a 3A region quarterfinal at Western Christian that will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.

The Alta Aurelia girls will host Manson Northwest Webster in a 2A region quarterfinal next Tuesday, February 18th that will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM.

The OA-BCIG boys jumped to an 8-0 lead, scored 25 points in the 1st quarter, and built a 55-8 halftime lead in their 84-31 victory over Alta Aurelia.

Brysen Kolar led three Falcons in double figures with 20, followed by Evan Hoffman with 19, and Raif Jensen had 12.

Gavin Sleezer and Peyton Meyer each had 6 for the Warriors.

OA-BCIG ups their record to 15-4, dropping Alta Aurelia to 4-16.

The OA-BCIG boys wrap up regular season play tomorrow (Thur) at home against Newell Fonda.

The Alta Aurelia boys conclude the regular season tomorrow (Thur) with a home game against Cherokee.
