Kampbell And Ramirez-Parra Qualify For State Cross Country Meet

Silvia Kampbell set a new school record time of 19:14 and became the first female athlete at Storm Lake to qualify for the State Cross Country meet since 1988 as she placed 7th at Wednesday’s State qualifying meet held at Gilbert. The Tornado girls team placed 8th out of 12 teams. Maggie Dahlhauser placed 40th, Lilly Backman was 50th, Jennifer Gutierrez was 56th, and Anaiz Martinez placed 65th.

The Tornado boys placed 5th out of 13 teams and were led by Joel Ramirez-Parra who placed 7th in a time of 16:04 and qualified for the State meet for the 3rd time. Jacob Mills finished 20th, Alexander Ortega was 24th, Alex Placencia was 41st, Heath Kampbell was 43rd, John Schwint placed 62nd, and Brett Pedersen finished 69th.

The 3A girls and boys State cross country meet will take place Friday, November 1st in Fort Dodge.
