East Sac County basketball teams sweep past OABCIG for the first time since 2015

The East Sac County Raider basketball teams swept the OABCIG Falcons for the first time since December 10th, 2015: with the girls winning 41-32 and the boys winning 63-55

–The girls game saw the East Sac County Raiders storm out to an early 11-2 lead over the OABCIG Falcons. However, the Falcons would have the answer later in the quarter going on a 7-0 run of their own to end the first quarter. The Raiders took an 11-9 lead into the second stanza. The second quarter saw both defenses stand tall. The teams would only combine for eleven total points. The Raiders would push their lead to five at the break outscoring the Falcons 7-4 in the second. The Falcons would fly out of the halftime break on an 8-0 run to lead 21-18, the biggest lead for the Falcons. The Raiders would regain the advantage by the end of the third quarter, leading 25-24. The Raiders would push the lead to as many as ten in the fourth quarter and never look back winning 41-32

The Raiders with the win improve to 3-1, while the Falcons fall to 0-5. The Falcons were led in scoring by Freshman Brady Youngren with 12 points and the Raiders were led in scoring by Kendall Quirk (Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet and GMC Player of the Game) with 11 points and Addisen Ehler with 10 points. Up next for the Raiders they travel to play 1A #2 Newell-Fonda Friday night and the Falcons host West Monona on Friday night

–The boys game saw a back-and-forth seesaw affair. The first quarter saw three ties and neither side led by more than three points at any point. The teams would be knotted up at 15 all. The Falcons would open up the second quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 22-15, which would be their biggest lead. The Raiders would close the gap to two by halftime outscoring the Falcons 11-6 to trail 28-26 at the half. The third quarter saw more of the same as the teams would tie three times and both teams led (Raiders by as many as four and the Falcons by as many as three). The Raiders would take control of the final stanza. The Raiders would open their lead to 10 with under five minutes to go keyed by a key Jackson Rubendall three-pointer. The Falcons would cut the lead to 56-50 but would get no closer. Down the stretch clutch free throws from Ryan Clair would ice the game, as the Raiders would win 63-55

The win improves the Raiders to 3-0, and the loss drops the Falcons to 2-2. The Falcons were led in scoring by senior Ethan Behrendsen with 18 points, and the Raiders were led in scoring by Ryan Clair with 22 points (20 in the second half/Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet and GMC Player of the Game) and Sam Julin with 15 points (14 in the first half) and Jackson Rubendall with 12 points (9 in the second half). Up next: the Raiders travel to play Newell-Fonda Friday night and the Falcons play host to West Monona Friday night
