The Fort Dodge football team took over in the 2nd half in their 35-0 win over Storm Lake Friday night at Tornado Field. While the Dodgers offense put up 29 points in the 3rd quarter it was their defense that held the Tornadoes to minus 53 yards of offense in that quarter turning what was a good game into a dominant win.
Fort Dodge led 6-0 at the half after they took their first drive of the game 80 yards to take a 6-0 lead. A tough Tornado defense kept them in the game throughout the first half thanks in part to a pair of Rylan Richardson interceptions and a huge goal line stand.
Dreshaun Ross, who had several sacks and quarterback pressures in the game, scored on an 80 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage to start the 3rd quarter and the Dodger defense would do the rest.
Fort Dodge ended the game with 426 yards of offense with 338 on the ground. Ross had four carries for 107 yards and two scores and William McElroy carried the ball 25 times for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Storm Lake ended the game with two yards of total offense. Cam Boyd was 12 of 19 through the air for 119 yards. David William was again his top target with seven receptions for 77 yards. However because of some sacks and miscues on offense the Tornadoes had minus 117 yards rushing.
Fort Dodge improves to 6-1 and 2-1 in the district. Storm Lake falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in district play. Next week the Tornadoes will host Spencer. Click below to hear from Tornado coach Drake Curry.
