Cronin Pitches And Hits Hawks Past Mustangs

Marina Cronin delivered a two-run double in the 4th inning and pitched a shutout as Remsen-St. Mary’s beat Newell-Fonda 2-0 in a class 1A regional final played Monday night at Remsen.

Cronin tossed a 7-hitter striking out 11 batters and the Hawks pushed their record to 23-0 and advance to next week’s State Tournament in Fort Dodge.

The Mustangs had chances to score putting a runner at 3rd base with one out in the 1st inning but Cronin got back to back ground outs to end the threat. Newell-Fonda’s best chance to score came in the 3rd inning with they had the bases loaded with one out but Cronin again got back to back ground outs to escape the jam.
