The Carroll girls basketball team handed Storm Lake their fifth straight loss as the Tigers won 46-42 and the Tiger boys team edged the Tornadoes 57-53 Saturday evening at Tornado Fieldhouse in Storm Lake.
The Storm Lake girls made only 3-of-23 shots in the first half and fell behind 27-12. They would cut an 18 point deficit to two with 1:15 to go but the Tigers would make some free throws to seal the win as they improve to 6-2 overall. Adeeya Yanga scored 15 points and Maddy Raveling added 10. Storm Lake falls to 4-5 on the year and will host Kingsley-Pierson Tuesday night.
The Carroll boys trailed 29-27 at the break but came out in the 3rd quarter and scored the first six points and would later carry a 42-38 lead into the 4th quarter. The visiting Tigers led 52-45 with 3:20 to go when Storm Lake’s Trey Boettcher went 2-for-2 at the free throw line and followed it up with a 3-pointer and the Tornadoes trailed 52-50 with 2:20 to go in the game but would get no closer.
Jaidyn Coon scored a game high 22 points for the Tornadoes and Boettcher added 16. Storm Lake falls to 6-1 and will play again Friday night at Le Mars. The Tigers are now 2-5.
