Dreams of a State Championship were dashed Monday evening in Des Moines as the Tigers of ADM beat Storm Lake 59-53 in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament.
The Tornadoes who came into the game shooting nearly 51-percent from the field were held to 37-percent shooting for the game making 20-of-54 shots including 6-of-20 from the arc.
Jaidyn Coon scored 16 points grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots, and Timothy Yanga scored all ten of his points in the 4th quarter to lead the Tornado offense.
Storm Lake led 26-25 at the break but ADM outscored the Tornadoes 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to take a 42-34 lead into the final period. Yanga would drill a 3-pointer to open the 4th quarter but Storm Lake was never able to get closer than five points the rest of the way.
Storm Lake was outrebounded for only the 2nd time all year as the Tigers were plus six on the glass and were led by Cade Fisher who had 19 rebounds to go along with his 12 points.
The Tornadoes finish the year with a record of 22-2 and graduate one senior, that being Charlie Dvergsten. Click below to hear form Tornado head coach Evan Franzmeier.
