5th Ranked Mustangs Take Down #1 Garrigan

It was a top five showdown in Algona Thursday night and the 5th Ranked Newell-Fonda girls beat top ranked Bishop Garrigan 76-60.

Kinzee Hinders made 12 of 17 shots and scored 30 points to go along with 12 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Ellie Sievers made 7 of 9 shots and tallied 20 points.

After the game coach Dick Jungers said, “This was a great road win for us. Both teams experienced some foul trouble, but I was very pleased with our defensive intensity and our ability to convert some turnovers into some transition baskets. This was 2 very good teams going toe to toe and at the end of the day, we were able to make a late run to finish off the game. I was pleased at how we had many different players step up and make plays”.

The Mustangs are now 3-0. Bishop Garrigan won the boys game 71-61. Jacksyn Hogrefe led the Mustang boys with 24 points. The Newell-Fonda teams are scheduled to play at East Sac County Friday night.
