The Iowa Pork Producers new “Pork in the Pantry” program has provided more than 50-thousand meals for underprivileged Iowans over the past few months.
40 county pork producer organizations worked with the state association to donate pork to local food pantries. The Iowa Pork Producers Association matched up to one-thousand dollars for each county, totaling nearly 40-thousand dollars statewide. Counties participating in the “Pork in the Pantry” program this year include Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Ida, O’Brien, Palo Alto, and Sac.
Many groups purchased pork from area meat lockers and grocery stores to help keep the dollars in their local communities.
