A Storm Lake man was recently sentenced in Buena Vista County District Court to serve a two-year prison term with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
According to the BV County Attorney’s Office, 26-year-old Garhoth Dak pleaded guilty in late November to Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Dak had been wanted on several charges when he was arrested by Storm Lake Police on October 9th. He was found seated in a vehicle in the driveway of a residence at 709 Walnut Street. An officer attempted to make contact with Dak, when he fled into the residence. A perimeter was secured around the residence. Approximately two hours later, a caller reported a fire at a Storm Lake apartment complex to the BV County Communications Center. The caller’s phone number was reportedly associated with Dak, and authorities determined that Dak made the phone call. There was no evidence of a fire. Dak eventually surrendered himself and was taken into custody.
The warrants against Dak for Driving While Barred, as well as Operating a Vehicle Without Owners Consent, stemmed from a pursuit in the early morning hours of July 8th west of Storm Lake that reached speeds of over 108 miles-per-hour.
