The Iowa Utilities Board has rescheduled its public hearing regarding MidAmerican Energy’s proposed natural gas customer rate increase.
The hearing was scheduled to begin today (Tues) but will now start on Tuesday, January 23rd at 10am in the IUB Hearing Room in Des Moines.
Yesterday (Mon) MidAmerican filed a motion for suspension of the procedural schedule based on a non-unanimous settlement agreement between the company and the Office of Consumer Advocate, a division of the Iowa Department of Justice, on the revenue requirement in this rate case. The hearing was rescheduled to allow adequate time for the proposed settlement.
If approved, MidAmerican customers will see their total monthly gas bill increase six-percent on average, which would equal a hike of less than five dollars per month. MidAmerican filed its application request with the IUB this past June. This is MidAm’s first rate increase request in 20 years. A final determination from regulators is expected in May of this year following comments from customers and interested parties.
