Pocahontas Area Advances To 2A Semi-Finals

Akaysa Duitscher buried six 3-pointers and scored a game high 20 points helping the Pocahontas Area girls basketball team to a 47-36 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a class 2A quarter-final state tournament game played Wednesday in Des Moines.

Duitscher made four of those 3-pointers in the first quarter helping the Indians grab a 14-10 lead. They would never trail after that.

Pocahontas Area shot just 28-percent for the game but their defense forced 23 turnovers and they held the Rockets to 31-percent shooting. The Indians also had 18 offensive rebounds in the game.

E-B-F was led by Molly Shafer’s 17 points and they finish the year with a record of 24-1. The Indians, now 21-4, will play Central Lyon in the semi-final round Friday morning at 11:45am. Central Lyon improved to 23-0 on the year with a 66-30 win over Panorama in their quarter-final game.
