2A #8 Pocahontas Area uses strong first quarter to advance to the region semi-final, Raiders wrap up the year 5-18

2A #8 Pocahontas Area Indians defeated the East Sac County Raiders 62-25 en route to advancing to the Class 2A-Region 8 semi-final versus South Central Calhoun on Friday

Pocahontas Area opened the game on a 10-0 run over the first three minutes of the game and never looked back. After two Addison Ehler free throws for East Sac County, once again Pocahontas Area would use a 10-0 run to end the first quarter. The lead of Pocahontas Area was 20-2 after the first quarter. The first four minutes of the second quarter saw East Sac County draw back within 17 which would be as close as they would get. The Indians would close out the half on a 14-4 run to lead 37-8 at the half.

The second half saw the Indians push the game to continuous clock after a 10-4 run out of the halftime break to lead 47-12 with 5:04 to go in the third. The Indians would roll on to a 62-25 final score.

Top scorers for Pocahontas Area were Akaysa Duitscher and Abby Oberhelman both with 10 points, for East Sac County Makenna Steiger lead the way with 7 points

The win advances Pocahontas Area to 18-4 as well as advancing to the Region Semi-Final Friday where they will take on TLC foe South Central Calhoun, Pocahontas won the only meeting this year 58-49. The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL. For East Sac County they wrap up the season 5-18 and say goodbye to four seniors.
