Panther rally falls short in postseason loss to the Wildcats

In the opening round of Class 1A Region 2 Girls Basketball Tournament the Storm Lake Saint Mary’s Panthers fell to the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats 58-51

The first 90 seconds of the game saw the Panthers fly out of the gate to a 7-0 lead. That would be the biggest lead the Panthers would see. The remainder of the opening frame saw the Wildcats outscore the Panthers 13-2 en route to a 13-9 lead after one. The opening stages of the second quarter saw the Wildcats keep rolling this time an 8-2 run to lead 21-11 with 6:21 to go in the half. The Panthers would cut the lead down to 21-15 with a quick 4-0 run, the Panthers would call a timeout following their run. The final five minutes saw the Wildcats extend their lead to the biggest in the half on the heels of an 11-5 to lead 32-20 at the break.

The Wildcats would run out to their biggest lead of the game with a seven minute stretch where they outscored the Panthers 15-10 to lead 47-30 with one minute to go in the third. The Panthers would close the gap down to 49-35 after three. In the fourth the Panthers would chip down the 17 point lead to 6 with two minutes to go at 53-47, a 12-4 run. The Panthers would get as close as 56-51 with under 30 seconds to go. After a Panther timeout they would have a chance to get closer but could not connect from three. The Wildcats would go on to win 58-51.

With the win the Wildcats improve to 13-10 and travel to 1A #2 Newell-Fonda next Tuesday (the game will be broadcast on KBVU), the Panthers wrap up the regualr season at 4-16 and say goodbye to three seniors (Natalie Green, Sydney Hurd and Bianca Limones)

The Panthers were lead in scoring by Neely Bacon with 19 points, Sydney Hurd added 14, and Natalie Green scored 8, and for the Wildcats they were lead in scoring by Paige Klocke with 18 points, Ashtyn Klocke tallied 12, and both Vanessa Koehler and Tiela Janssen both with 10 points.

The Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Players of the Game were the three Seniors: Natalie Green, Sydney Hurd and Bianca Limones!
