DeJean Reaches 1,000 in Falcons Sweep

Beckett DeJean reached 1,000 points for his career as the OA-BCIG boys basketball team won at Alta Aurelia Tuesday night 65-50.

The Falcons raced to a 16-0 lead, and were up 16-2 after the 1st quarter. Alta Aurelia kept pace from that point, but OA-BCIG’s lead never dipped below double figures the rest of the way.

DeJean led the way with 19 points, Treyton Kolar scored 11, and Kane Ladwig had 10. Braden Sonksen led the Warriors with 16, and Ayden Dullea scored 15.

OA-BCIG is now 17-1, and Alta Aurelia sits at 8-12.

The OA-BCIG girls prevailed over Alta Aurelia 53-45.

The Falcons scored the first 11 points of the game, and led by as many as 13 in the 1st quarter. Alta Aurelia ended the 1st quarter on a 7-0 run, capped by Brielle Engelmaan’s bounce-in three at the buzzer to cut the OA-BCIG advantage to 17-11. The Warriors took their first lead at 23-22 with just over three minutes remaining in the half, and they were ahead 27-24 at halftime.

The Falcons turned the tide with ten consecutive points to begin the 3rd quarter, and never trailed after that. OA-BCIG were up 37-34 going to the 4th quarter. Alta Aurelia did tie the game at 39-39 early in the 4th, but free throws down the stretch proved crucial in the Falcons win.

OA-BCIG was 21-37 at the free throw line, while Alta Aurelia was 13-24. Alex Schroeder scored 20 points for the Falcons, and Krista Sibenaller had 16. Nora Peterson scored 15 for the Warriors, and Shea Peterson had 11.

OA-BCIG improves to 8-11, dropping Alta Aurelia to 10-11.

The OA-BCIG boys wrap up the regular season this Thursday at home against Newell Fonda.

The Alta Aurelia boys play their regular season finale Thursday at home against Cherokee.

The OA-BCIG girls play at Cherokee on Saturday at 7pm in a 3A region quarterfinal. It’ll be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.

The Alta Aurelia girls play in a 2A region quarterfinal next Tuesday, February 14th at 7pm at home against Ridge View. It’ll be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
