Pocahontas Area Girls Win 6th in a Row ; East Sac Boys Victorious

The 8th ranked in Class 2A Pocahontas Area girls defeated East Sac County 72-36 Tuesday night in Sac City.

Poky jumped out to a 12-0 lead, and led 21-10 after the 1st quarter. The Indians put together a 12-1 run during the 2nd quarter, on their way to a 44-26 lead at halftime. The continuous clocked kicked in with under 30 seconds left in the 3rd.

Abby Oberhelman poured in 21 points for Poky. Akaysa Duitscher hit four of her five threes in the 1st quarter and scored 17 points. Paige Melohn added 13 for Poky. Sarah Bontrager tallied 10 points for the Raiders.

Pocahontas Area is now 13-3 overall, and 8-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. East Sac goes to 4-14, 2-8.

The East Sac boys broke away in the 2nd half in their 58-43 win over Pocahontas Area.

Poky led by two points three times early on. East Sac took the lead for good at 7-6, and led 10-9 after the 1st quarter. The Raiders led by as many as 15 during the 1st half, but Poky cut it to 29-23 at the half.

A 13-0 run by Pocahontas Area into the 3rd quarter got them within 29-27. Sam Julin stopped the run with a three, and that ignited 14 consecutive Raiders points. East Sac closed the 3rd quarter on an 18-2 run, which they extended to 20-2 into the 4th quarter to get what was their biggest lead of the night. Poky only got as close as 13 from that point.

Julin hit six threes in the game to account for 18 points, and was followed by Aden Vondrak with 13, and Ryan Clair had 10. Gabe Ehn scored 11 for the Indians, and Collin Dreith added 10.

East Sac County now sits at 7-9, 4-6 Twin Lakes, and Poky is 2-14, 2-8.
