Storm Lake splits twin-bill at Sioux City North

The Storm Lake Tornadoes split a Monday night twin-bill in Sioux City, with the Storm Lake girls winning 59-50 and the Storm Lake boys falling 61-59

In the girls game the Sioux City North Stars jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Storm Lake Tornadoes would have the answer outscoring the Stars the rest of the quarter 15-5 to lead 15-12 after one. The second quarter saw three different ties at 21, 25 and 27 before the Tornadoes would take a 30-27 lead into the halftime break.

The second half saw the Torandoes jump out to a 6-2 run to hold their biggest lead at 36-29. However the Stars would close the quarter out on a 10-5 run to close the gap to 41-39 after three. The fourth saw the Stars tie the game at 41 onebucket into the quarter.The following four minutes would see the teams battle to a 48-47 Tornado advantage with 4:20 in the fourth. The Tornadoes would connect on their free throws down the stretch and go on to win 59-50.

The Tornadoes were lead in scoring by Avery DeHaan with 20, Adeeya Yanga with 15 andMaddy Raveling with 11. Stars were lead by Sydney Rexius with 21 points, and Hannah Mogensen with 11.

The boys game saw a see-saw affair for the first six minutes of the game as the Stars held a 10-8 lead with 2:08 to go in the quarter. The Stars would close out the quarter on a 4-2 run to lead 14-10 after one. The Stars would roll out of the second quarter on a 17-5 run to hold their biggest lead of the game at 31-15. The Tornadoes closed the gap on a 8-2 run highlighted buy a Justin Guynn buzzer beater three that got the Tornadoes back with 11 at 34-23.

The start of the second half saw the Tornadoes get hot from beyond the arc as they opened up the second half on a 15-2 run to lead 37-36 with 5:01 to go in the quarter. The Tornadoes would lead by as many as five, and would cling to a 48-45 lead after three. The fourth quarter saw the teams go back and forth including four ties at 52, 54, 56 and 59. The Stars would sink two free throws with just over five seconds to go and the Tornadoes would miss a buzzer beater lay-up as the Stars won 61-59.

The Tornadoes were lead in scoring by Cameron Boyd with 16 (4/5 3 point shots), and Brody Boeckman had 14 (4/6 3 point shots). Stars were lead by Zach Hesse with 16, Noah Conley with 15 and Tajohn Swaggerty-Morgan with 14.
