1A #2 Newell-Fonda uses a 31-0 run to sprint past Western Christian

The number two team in Class 1A Newell-Fondawas dominant in a 63-27 win over Western Christian in girls basketball

The Western Christian Wolfpack opened up the game scoring the first bucket to go up 2-0. The Newell-Fonda Mustangs would fire back with one of their first half runs scoring ten straight to go up 10-2 after a Wolfpack timeout. The Wolfpack would regroup out of the time-out and collect a quick basket to cut the Mustang lead to 10-4. That is when the game took its decisive turn. The Mustangs would score the final 18 points of the first quarter to lead 28-4 after one.

The Mustangs were not done as they would open up the second quarter on a 13-0 run to bring the total to an amazing 31-0 run. That run gave the Mustangs a 41-4 lead with a little over four minutes to go in the half. After a Wolfpack bucket the Mustangs would close the half out on a 5-0 run to lead 46-6 at the break.

The second half saw running clock, however the Wolfpack would score the first nine points of the second half to cut the Mustang lead to 46-15. That would be as close as the Wolfpack would get. The Mustangs would hold a 54-20 lead after three quarters and go on to win 63-27.

The win improves the Mustangs to 3-0 and the loss drops the Wolfpack to 2-3. Up next for the Mustangs they play host to 2A #9 Pocahontas Area on Tuesday night, the Wolfpack travel to take on Sioux Falls Christian next Tuesday.

The Mustangs were lead in scoring by Kinzee Hinders and Laney Hogrefe both with 12 points, Mia Walker added 10, Mary Walker had 9, Kierra Jungers had 7 and 3 Mustangs had 3+ points. The Wolfpack was lead by Apiyo Harberts and Keana Wynja both with eight points.

The Wells Ag Players of the game were Hinders and Hogrefe for their scoring efforts and the play of the game was the 31 points run by the Mustang offense.
