Two Area Residents Arrested in Separate Clay County Incidents

A couple of area residents were arrested in two separate incidents in Clay County.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, one of the arrests occurred this past Wednesday night shortly before 11pm. A deputy attempted to stop 40-year-old Benjamin Schroeder of Sioux Rapids in the 100 block of West 2nd Street in Spencer. Schroeder fled from the deputy, and was located in the 200 block of West 2nd Street. Schroeder refused to comply with officers, and he was placed under arrest.

Upon searching Schroeder, officers located marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Schroeder was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana 3rd Offense and Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine 3rd Offense, both class D felonies…as well as Interference With Official Acts, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Bicycle Lamp Violation, all simple misdemeanors. He was booked into the Clay County Jail.

The other arrestoccurred at 6:30 on Wednesday evening in the 46-hundred mile of Highway 71.

A Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop for a speeding violation. It was determined that the driver, 20-year-old James Martin of Alta, was in possession of vaping products under the legal age of 21. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more vaping products, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Martin was booked into the Clay County Jail on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor…as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding, Dark Windows, and Minor in Possession of Tobacco, all simple misdemeanors.
