Laurens Man Receives Prison Sentence for Sexually Abusing Stepdaughter

A Laurens man was sentenced this week to serve 25 years in prison for sexually abusing his stepdaughter.

33-year-old James Buckingham pleaded guilty last month to 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse of a minor under the age of 14. He was accused of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter on May 7th in an apartment on West Willow Street in Cherokee. Buckingham was arrested a month after the incident after an investigator received a complaint from the girl’s father.

In addition to the 25-year prison sentence, Buckingham was placed on probation for the rest of his life after the prison term is complete. He was set to be transported by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale. Buckingham must serve at least 17-and-a-half years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
