Iowa Farmers Now in Full Harvest Mode

Dry weather last week allowed Iowa farmers to get rolling with the fall harvest.

According to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, five percent of the statewide corn harvest is now complete, which is five days behind last year and one day behind the five-year average. The corn condition remained 64 percent good to excellent condition.

Seven-percent of soybeans statewide have been harvested, which is four days behind last year and three days behind the average. The soybean condition was rated 62-percent good to excellent, down slightly from the previous week.

In northwest Iowa, topsoil that is either short or very short of moisture is at 71-percent, and that’s seven-percent more than the previous week. There were over six days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa last week.
