Storm Lake Plays Best Game Of Year In Loss To Bulldogs

In front of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd the Storm Lake football team played with great effort and high energy all night only to come out on the losing end of a 49-10 game to the Le Mars Bulldogs.

The Tornadoes trailed 7-0 after Elijah Dougherty’s 51 yard touchdown run opened the games scoring. Storm Lake would respond with an eleven play 84 yard touchdown drive that was capped off withJosh Steffen’s 27 yard TD pass to Brody Boeckman and after the point after was booted through the game was tied at 7-7.

The Bulldogs would get another long TD run to go up 14-7 with just under 10 mintues to play in the half. The Tornadoes then marched right down the field, aided by a 40 yard pass from Steffen to Trevor Turner, and the green and white had it first down and goal inside the five yard line but had to settle for a 25 yard field goal from Deryk Hernandez and it was a 14-10 game with four mintues left in the 2nd quarter.

Le Mars though would score again with :26 seconds left in the half to go up 21-10. On the next series Steffen was blindsided on first down and fumbled the ball and the Bulldogs scooped it up and returned it to the Tornado 12 yard line. Two plays later, and on the last play of the half, quarterback Teagen Kasel would sneak it in for a one yard score and it was 28-10 at the half.

Le Mars then outscored Storm Lake 21-0 in the 3rd quarter. The Bulldogs had 327 yards of total offense with 242 coming on the ground led by Dougherty who carried the ball 11 times for 103 yards and two scores.

Storm Lake had 187 yards of offense. Steffen was 2-for-5 for 67 yards and one TD. Julian Cortes toted the ball 18 times for 59 yards.

Storm Lake is now 0-5 and will play at home next week vs. Denison-Schleswig. With the win Le Mars improves to 4-1.
