Woman Dies from Attack by Her Own Dogs in Rural Clay County

A woman’s death in Clay County earlier this week was determined to be from an attack by her own dogs.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a report was received shortly after 1:45pm Monday that a female was located in the ditch in the 45-hundred mile of 200th Avenue. The caller stated that several big dogs were next to the female. Deputies arrived and determined that the female was deceased.

The female was identified as 43-year-old Mindy Kiepe of rural Rossie. An autopsy at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny revealed that the death was caused by multiple dog bite injuries.

Further investigation determined that five great danes owned by Kiepe had caused her death. The dogs were euthanized with assistance of a veterinarian. The incident occurred a short distance from Kiepe’s farm residence driveway.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Rapids Fire Department, Royal Fire and Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
