Hotel Room Incident Results in Attempted Murder Charge

A man has been arrested on several felony charges, including attempted murder, following a hotel room encounter in Storm Lake.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers were called to the Budget Inn shortly before 12:50 this (Fri) morning. Upon arrival, a victim was located in a hallway suffering from sustained facial and leg injuries. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

An investigation determined that 55-year-old Miguel Garcia Montelongo of Monte Alto, Texas had met the victim in a hotel room, where Montelongo allegedly offered illegal drugs to the victim. When the victim refused to take the drugs, Montelongo armed himself with a large knife and physically attacked the victim. Montelongo reportedly further attempted to sexually assault the victim in the room. The victim was able to exit the room into a hallway, and someone called the police. Officers located a large knife that had been discarded in the hallway near the area where the victim was found.

Montelongo was located in one of the hotel rooms and arrested without incident. He was charged with Attempted Murder, a class B felony…Assault While Participating in a Felony, and Assault With Intent to Commit Sex Abuse, both class C felonies…Going Armed With Intent, Willful Injury, and Assault Causing Serious Injury, all class D felonies…and Assault While Displaying a Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. Montelongo was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 62-thousand dollar bond.

The BV County Sheriff’s Office and BVRMC EMS assisted at the scene.
