Ridge View Softball Wins Region Quarterfinal Over Alta Aurelia

#14 Ridge View defeated Alta Aurelia 11-1 in five innings this (Wed) evening in a 2A region quarterfinal in Galva.

After two scoreless innings, the Raptors sent 11 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning and scored seven runs. Addison Schmidt had a fielders choice RBI to starting the scoring, and Beth Mentzer and Abby Wandrey each had a two-RBI single.

Emma Vohs and Schmidt hit back to back homeruns to begin the 4th. It was Vohs’ 11th, and Schmidt’s 5th of the season. Following a one-out double by Sky Henkel, Tatum Shepherd drilled a two-run homer, her 6th of the year. Ridge View now has 26 homeruns on the season.

The Warriors only run came in the 5th after a leadoff double by Shea Peterson, who scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Jenna Nielsen.

Schmidt recorded five strikeouts for Ridge View, as their record is now 18-8. Postgame comments from coach Scott Phelps can be heard below.

The Raptors will play at 11th ranked Hinton on Friday night at 7pm, which will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA. Hinton beat Sioux Central 9-4 in their quarterfinal game.

Alta Aurelia finishes at 11-16. Their seniors include Nielsen, Angela Lopez, and Alli Magnussen.
