The Animal Rescue League of Iowa’s Mobile Rescue Team recently spent hours removing 30 cats and kittens from deplorable conditions in a vacated Pocahontas County residence.
According to the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, the rescue happened at a residence in Rolfe this past Friday. Information released on the Animal Rescue League website says the cats and kittens had been left by their owner inside the hot, filthy house, without any food or water. Floors, stairs, and some counter tops were covered with feces, urine, and trash. In one closet area, a layer of feces that was nearly one inch thick covered the floor. The news release states that the animals would not have survived much longer in those conditions.
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office says charges are pending in the case. The cats and kittens are being treated by the ARL’s Miracle Medical Team.
