June 21, 2022 8:17am
The Storm Lake City Council on Monday approved prizes for an event at the Sunrise Campground in late July.
A Chili Cook Off will be held at the campground on Saturday, July 30th. The first-place winner will receive two free weekend stay camping coupons for the 2023 season. Kim Woltman is the City's program manager, who manages the campground, and said even though they're running at about 90-percent occupancy on weekends, they're trying to get attendance up both during the week and on weekends...(audio clip below)
Flyers will soon be distributed to advertise the event. Participants will have to sign a liability form.
Council member Tyson Rice suggested the City budget prizes every month during camping season, so prizes would be available if the Sunrise Campground decided to host an activity like this once a month. The council approved up to 500-dollars worth of campground prizes to be given away the remainder of this year.
