Tornado Teams Split At Spencer Friday Night

The Spencer softball team beat Storm Lake 8-1 Friday night. Taylor Ripke’s 2nd homer of the season accounted for the only Tornado run. Storm Lake, now 9-9 overall, will host LeMars Gehlan Saturday morning at 9am and then take on Sioux Center at 1pm.

In the baseball game Hunter DeMey pitched a fourhitter and the Tornadoes won 4-0. All four runs were scored in the first inning. Aiden Phillips, who went 3-for-4, drilled an RBI single plating Edgar Barriero who led off the inning with an infield single to make it 1-0. Then with the bases loaded and two outs Trevor Turner hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped allowing all three runs to score and that was plenty of run support for DeMey who was fantastic on the mound. The Junior improved to 5-1 on the year as he struck out four and walked one.

With the win Storm Lake is now 17-4 overall and 5-1 in the Lakes Conference and they remain tied with E-L-C for 1st place in the conference race. The Midgets beatCherokee Friday 11-0 in five innings.
