Mason Laven shot a 79 in the opening round of the class 1A state tournament at the Ames Country Club.  He is three strokes out of the lead heading into Tuesday's final round.

OA-BCIG golfer Axton Miller shot a one over par 73 in the first round of the class 2A state tournament at the Cold Water Golf Links in Ames.  Miller is tied for 3rd and three shots out of the lead heading into the final round.
