Tornadoes Take Season Opener Over Visiting Ridge View 5-16-22

May 16, 2022 5:55pm

Sam Dvergsten led a 14 hit attack going 4-for-4 and the Storm Lake baseball team beat visiting Ridge View 8-5 in the season opener for both teams Monday night.

Hunter Demey picked up the win for the Tornadoes going five strong innings giving up four runs on four hits but he ran into some control problems in the 6th with Storm Lake leading 6-2.  He walked two, hit a batter, and a defensive error behind him led to a pair of Raptor runs and it was a 6-4 game with the bases loaded and no outs.  Jake Eddie would enter the game and would strike out the first batter, walk the second to force in a run to make it 6-5 but the right hander would get back to back strike outs to end the threat.  The Tornadoes added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning which set up  Austing Gaffney who relieved Eddie and pitched a perfect 7th inning to record the save.

Tracin Price started the game and took the loss for the Raptors, he allowed six runs on 11 hits while striking out five. Price had two of the Raptors four hits at the plate.

Also collecting two hits for Storm Lake were Edgar Barriero, who blasted a solo homer in the 2nd inning, Jake Eddie and Drew Taylor.

Ridge View will play again at home Wednesday vs. Kingsley-Pierson and Storm Lake will host Denison-Schleswig Wednesday night.  The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL
