April 25, 2022 9:50am

High winds on Saturday caused multiple accidents throughout the day.

At 12:45PM on Saturday, Dylan Malcom of Sioux City was operating a 2019 Toyota Tundra and pulling a small, enclosed utility trailer. Malcom was headed east on Hwy 175 between Gard and Hope Ave, when high winds caused the utility trailer to fishtail. The truck entered the south ditch and rolled. Malcom was not injured in the crash and there was an estimated $10,000.00 damage.

1:42PM, deputies responded to US Hwy 20 and Yankee Ave on a semi-tractor trailer that had blown over. Wanaw Bayible from Sioux Falls, SD was operating a 2016 Freightliner westbound on Hwy 20, when the wind blew over the empty trailer he was pulling. The tractor-trailer unit came to rest on its side block HWY 20. The driver received minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

2:02PM, deputies responded to HWY 20 just west of Xavier Ave. A 2016 Freightliner being operated by Ricky Derifield of Evansdale, Iowa was blown over, and came to rest on the drivers’ side in the center median. No injuries were reported in this crash.

Also responding to these crashes were fire departments from Odebolt, Sac City, Lytton and Sac County EMS.
