Storm Lake City Council Work Session Held to Consider ATV's/UTV's Being Allowed on City Roadways

The Storm Lake City Council today (Mon) held a work session to discuss possibly allowing all-terrain vehicles and/or off-road utility vehicles on approved roadways within Storm Lake City Limits.

The request is being made by Jeff Schultz of Storm Lake Honda, who was asked by Mayor Mike Porsch why he feels this is important for the council to consider...(audio clip below  :26 )

Schultz said a yearly registration fee of 25-dollars per unit is most common in towns where ATV's and UTV's are allowed. Approximately 260 of those vehicles are currently registered in Storm Lake.

Council member Tyson Rice has homes in Spirit Lake and Deadwood, South Dakota, and UTV's are allowed in both of those communities. Rice sees them as a positive form of family recreation...(audio clip below  :30 )

Council member Matt Ricklefs expressed concern about how others on roadways would adapt to ATV's or UTV's being permitted.

City Manager Keri Navratil said a public forum on the matter will be held on a date to be determined.
