Power Restoration Updates

December 16, 2021 10:33am

180 Storm Lake area MidAmerican Energy customers were still without power as of 7am today (Thur).

Power is expected to be restored for most of those MidAmerican customers by noon today, and all customers should have power back by 6pm this (Thur) evening. As many as 23-hundred Storm Lake area MidAmerican Energy customers were without power during the storm.

Despite the challenging working conditions overnight, MidAmerican crews were able to restore power to over 30-thousand customers total. As many as 65-thousand MidAmerican customers in Iowa lost power during the storm.

Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative line crews were able to restore power to all but 54 member-owners by 2am this morning. In a news release late this morning, ILEC had approximately 36 member-owners without power, and they anticipated service being restored today.

The restoration process was, and still is, complicated by high winds and significant damage to area transmission systems. ILEC experienced significant damage to their electric distribution system due to the severe storm and high winds.

During clean-up, the public is reminded to stay away from downed power lines, and assume they are energized and dangerous.
