BV Conservation Board Adds Rainbow Trout into Gabrielson Lake

December 02, 2021 1:09pm

In late November, the Buena Vista County Conservation Board stocked Gabrielson Lake at Gabrielson Park with approximately 500 pounds of rainbow trout for public fishing.

According to Conservation Board Director Greg Johnson, most of the fish stocked at Gabrielson Lake ranged in size from three-quarters of a pound to a full pound, but there were quite a few that were over two pounds. Gabrielson Park is located just south of Sioux Rapids.

Johnson also says that in the past, the Board has only done one stocking during good ice conditions, but they decided to split the stocking this year into two deliveries to allow for some late fall, early winter open-water fishing opportunities. The BV Conservation Board plans to release another 500 pounds when there is sufficient ice in mid-to-late January.

All Iowa DNR fishing regulations must be followed. Anglers will need a valid 2021 fishing license and the trout fee to fish for or possess trout. Fishing licenses and trout fees can be purchased at any fishing license retailer, or online at the DNR website.

Children under 16 can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but they must limit their catch to one combined daily limit. The child can purchase a trout fee, which will allow them to catch their own limit. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler, with a possession limit of ten.
