South Central Calhoun knocks off Storm Lake for season opening win

2A's #13 team rolled as South Central Calhoun defeated Storm Lake 60-31. For South Central Calhoun Head Coach Curt Batta he picked up his first career win as varsity head coach

The Titans jumped out to an 8-0 lead and defensively did not allow a Tornado basket until 3:13 to go in the first. The Tornado basket would cut the lead to 8-2. The Titans would have a quick response with back-to-back threes to extend their lead to 14-2. The Titans would hold a 16-8 lead after one quarter.

The second quarter also saw the Titans burst out with a 9-0 run to start the quarter and extend their lead to 25-8. The Tornadoes scored their only basket of the quarter to cut the lead to 25-10. The Titans would close out the half with a 7-0 run to lead 32-10 at the break.

The Titans kept the momentum rolling in the second half as they would score seven straight points (Riley Batta scored the first six points of the second half) to extend the lead to 39-10. The teams would keep that margin as the quarter ended with the Titans leading 45-16.

To start the fourth the Titans would push the lead to 47-16 which would be their biggest lead. The Tornadoes would use a 12-3 run to cut the Titan lead to 50-28. The Titans would answer with a 10-3 run to win the game 60-31.

The Titans with the win improve to 1-0 and have now won 12 straight season openers, the Tornadoes fall to 1-1.

Up next: South Central Calhoun hosts South Hamilton on November 30th, Storm Lake hosts Sioux City North on November 30th.

The Titans were lead by Riley Batta, the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the game, with 18 points (11 points in second half), Kylee Schleisman with 15 points (9 first half points), and Brenna McAlister with 9 points.

The Tornadoes were lead by freshman Adeeya Yanga with 16 points
