Additional Charge for One of Those Arrested at Ontario Street Residence Last Week

One of the men arrested as part of an incident at 824 North Ontario Street in Storm Lake last week has received an additional charge.

Storm Lake Police were called to the residence last Thursday evening following a report of an out of control individual. Police were informed by occupants of the residence that 36-year-old Bounta Phanthavong of Storm Lake had intentionally started a fire in the basement of the residence. The fire was extinguished shortly thereafter, and Phanthavong was taken into custody.

Another man, 21-year-old Marson Bernardo of Storm Lake, was taken into custody on a Buena Vista County warrant for 1st Degree Burglary. Bernardo was also found to be in possession of several baggies of methamphetamine that were packaged for sale. Marijuana and additional drug equipment were found inside the residence. Bernardo was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, as well as Failure to Appear.

This (Tues) morning, it was revealed that during the arrest, police also located items on Bernardo's person that were allegedly taken during a residential burglary that occurred between September 20th and last Thursday, November 18th. The items were reportedly taken from a residence in the 500 block of Superior Street in Storm Lake.

Bernardo was additional charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a class D felony. He is currently being held in the Buena Vista County Jail on a 40-thousand dollar bond.
